  1. does yours have a tape deck? you could use one of those car-ready thingys and pop it in your tape deck and connect the other end to your ipod instead of a cd player. will work with a lot better quality than those staticy itrip or similiar devices
  2. hi, i was just wondering what everyone's opinion was about the new IS versus the new 3 series. duh this is a lexus forum so most likely the general concensus is lexus over bmw but i was wondering why the new IS over the new 3 series? (relevant to value and pricing) im asking because i am looking to trade in my gas guzzling rx for a sport compact
  3. i was quoted for a key from longo lexus at 270 for the key and programing. and yah you do need the original master key. an alternative that i did was found a blank key from ebay for about 80 dollars and then got it cut for 20 and then programmed it myself. another alternative is to find a locksmith who will do it for you. the one i went to who cut the key for me said he would have gotten me a key, cut it and program it for about 130.
  4. very nice :) i think that color scheme is the nicest. i got a white and always admire the blue and the black. love the woodgrain steering wheel but dislike it for the shift knob.
  5. Yes,,, Quite innocently, the young lady at 'pay for service' area, stated "They'll be no charge for todays service"... The humor: " today's service " ← thats so awesome they fixed your rx. I am pretty sure I have the same exact problem as you. the clicking is a total nuisance. What should I tell the dealership when I go get it fixed? I am not really interested in paying them just to find out what the problem is. also, why was it fixed for free ?
  6. Was it covered under warrenty? the powertrain warrenty?
  7. I am at 58k miles on my 2001 RX300, I need my brakes replaced, they squeak like crazy. Any suggestions on where I should go? Big-O, Sears, Midas, Toyota, Lexus? I was thinking I should just purcahse the brake pads from toyota or lexus and get it put on somewhere. What is the most economical option? (I dont have the know-how to do it myself :( ) Also, From Midas.com: "Our brake pads and shoes come with the famous Midas Lifetime Guarantee — once you purchase them at Midas, you will never need to pay for replacements again, so long as you own your car. " Does this mean they are lifetime brakes? are these good for the car?
  8. umm, not sure about what you said SKperformance, you could be right. but the instructions worked good for me. i got it from this guy on ebay from i purchased the key from.
  9. The programming procedure for the Transponder Chip for years 98-01 are as follows: Add Duplicate Key: On-Board Program E (1998+ Toyota, Lexus) (IGNITION) 1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time. 2. Insert existing master key into ignition. 3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times. 4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key. 5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition. 6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time. 7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off. 8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time. These are the programming procedures for Lexus RX300 (DOORS) A. 1. Open drivers door 2. Insert your key in the ignition, then remove it. 3. Using the inside power lock button, cycle the locks locked/unlocked 5 times, leaving them in the unlocked position. 4. Close and open the driver's door. 5. Again, cycle the locks locked/unlocked 5 times, leaving them in the unlocked position. 6. Insert the key in the ignition and turn it one time to ON position, then OFF. 7. Remove the key from the ignition. 8. The power locks should cycle once to indicate you are in the program mode. 9. Press the lock and unlock buttons together. Then, press any keyremote transmitter button for a minimum of 1 second. The locks should cycle only once. If they cycle twice, you are still in program mode, Close and open the door. you need to try and press the button again. I have discovered all problems are associated with how long you hold both buttons down initially, and how quickly you press either the lock or unlock button. Experiment with slightly different amounts of time...
  10. out of curiosity, what if i dont replace the drain plug gasket with a new one? Ive never done this for my past toyota cars.
  11. does anyone know if this would be covered under lexus' powertrain warrenty that covers 2001s with under 70k miles?
  12. I actually was in the same situation about 3 months ago when i first bought my 01 rx300. i kinda regret buying this option. two reasons: 1. i have full coverage insurance (state farm....which also doesnt give me any discounts for lojack) 2. lexus cars require a laser cut key that has a chip inside for it to start up. a key isnt enough. the chip in the key has to be programed. (however, i dont have much knowledge of this aspect and how easy it would be to steal an rx without the original keys.) if i could do it over again, i would not have bought this.
  13. i got the same thing going on! it sounds like my car is making popcorn i also have a warrenty. anyone know if this is a real problem besides its audible annoyance?
  14. nope, gas on my 2001 rx300 is killing me....:( i wanna get a small/economic car next time around
