We own a 2001 RX300. After considerable research we decided the safest place to get an update was through a dealer. We were offered an attractive price at Lexus Hendricks’s in Charlotte for $250 do it yourself.
Of course I had numerous questions about different generation systems, DVD recalls, etc. I was told that the 4.1 update they sold me would have minimal updates to the area we live in. They stated most of the area updated was in TX.
I bought the DVD anyway due to my own research and knowledge of GPS systems. I figured it was impossible for any company in competition not to update most areas over a 4 year period.
When I updated the system the difference from my 2000 ver .1 was enormous! Turn by turn directions, streets, POI, etc, etc were all updated. I had turn by turn directions in areas where I had to navigate alone for miles.
The area of knowledge I still cannot get a strong knowledge on is:
1) Recall of the 4.1 disk: I just bought 4.1 in Charlotte on 4/27/05. I was told it
wasn't a recalled disk, however, I've seen disks mentioned on here for 4.2
2) Will 4.1 work on different generation systems?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Based upon the inaccurate info I received at Hendricks, I will not call upon them.
