  1. My 2000 Lexus RX300 has O2 and knock sensor errors for few years. It's my 2nd vehicle and not much used so didn't repair it as local shops wanted too much, over $1500. Fast forward, I found few friends knew a mechanic who works from home and much cheaper labor. I don't want to keep this car for another 10 years so don't want to spend on OEM sensors. Cost of OEM knock and O2 sensors is over $700 while aftermarket is less than half. Questions: 1. I know OEM is recommended here but will the aftermarket knock sensors work for few years? Duralast Knock Sensor SU5377 Part # SU5377 SKU # 361907 $59.99 each ( OEM Toyota are $170 each). 2. What is the OEM brand for the knock sensors? NTK? Walker? 3. Should the knock sensor harness be replaced? what's the brand and part number? I see 82219-07010 and also 82219-33030. Either works? The mechanic wants to replace the knock sensors first to see what errors go away before replacing O2 sensors. I had the O2 error code before the knock sensor code so I'm thinking of replacing the upstream sensor anyway with Denso 234-9009. Thank you
  2. Thanks for reply. I got a OBD2 Scanner and cleared codes. I used app (OBD Car Doctor) and it showed few more codes but no p0125. It has P0330 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit, P1150 as trouble codes and P1155 as pending codes. What's pending??? I've yet to see P0171 in any app after clearing it. Attached is short/long term fuel trim with other sensor data. Does it point to bad Bank2 A/F sensor1? I can replace the front one behind the radiator myself I think, if that's the one I need to replace. thanks
  3. My RX300 has around 125k miles. Timing belt was replaced at around 83k miles. For last few years, it has check engine light. Well before that, CEL was off and on for a year or so but since 2 years it's on constantly. Here are the error codes from autozone: P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1) P0330 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit (Bank 2) P1150 A/F Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1) P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1) Not sure why P0171 is repeated twice. I cleaned the MAF. It was all gray with dust build up. Now the resistors are clean. That didn't change it. It was running fine but since last few weeks, it struggles to get power, specially when stopped at traffic light. Pushing pedal takes a bit before it moves forward. So have to fix it. Does Bank 1 mean upstream or downstream O2 sensor? Can I get by replacing one at this time? This is not my main vehicle. This is for groceries and short trips around town so don't want to spend dealer price for repairs. Are eBay parts good? I see downstream ones as little as $20 and upstream are around $30. For Denso, downstream is around $60 and upstream is around $140. What about knock sensor? Does that one also need replacement? That thing is even pricier at autozone. It was showing $250 while eBay has Denso ones for $25. Finally, how much labor cost are we talking if I buy these and have it installed by local mechanic? Thanks.
  4. Update: I charged the battery and installed it. As soon as I connected the terminals, engine started right there so obviously it's not the battery. Also, I saw smoke on the +ve terminal wires so I took the battery as soon as I could. I towed it to a repair shop nearby. They called me today that they found the issue. It is starter and needs replacement. Close to $500 total repair cost. Maybe time to trade it in after this repair as other things will start failing, after all it's 18 years old. This vehicle only is worth less than $3k anyways and trade in would be probably less than 2k.
  5. I have a 2000 RX300. Last year, it happened once. I took the key out and the engine didn't turn off. It was still running. I tried several times putting the key in/out but it still kept running. I drove it around and after driving little bit, it finally turned off. It worked fine for almost a year and it happened again. This time, same thing, many tries on using key in/out did nothing, the engine still was running so I drove it around but it died while driving. I smelt something burning on the exhaust. Now I can't get it to start back again. Thankfully, it's in a parking lot currently. I'll try to get a jump start later and see if that works. What do you guys think? What's happening?

  7. I got a set of Cooper CS5 grand touring tires to replace old Kumho Solus KR21 that have over 70,000 miles. They are $108 each but last week they had some rebate deals. KR21's are $80 each but wanted to try something different. Haven't mounted yet. Need to take them to local discount tire. What a difference looking at tires that have 70,000 miles vs brand new ones. ;) Hopefully, these would do good. www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?ra=searchTiresByVehicleAndSize.do&fl=&yr=2000&pc=19814&counter=0&ar=70&rd=16&vid=014366&cs=225
  8. I read the threads about cleaning switches and other solutions but mine acts little differently. I bought this RX300 in 2007 and the previous owner mentioned about the front windows sometimes acting up. Now 8 years later, it still has that issue. Driver side is not that bad but passenger side window always gets stuck on the open position if I lower it and won't come back up as long as I drive the car. The funny thing is, if I stop for few minutes, turn off the engine and start it back up, I can pull the window up easily and it goes all the way up smoothly and quickly but if I lower it again, it is stuck again. If I stop it in the middle while going up, it sometimes acts up and need to lower it again before I can close the window. When it works, it works fine and smooth. And it always goes down without any complain. As far as I remember, both buttons (driver and passenger side) behave the same way. Rear two windows don't have any problem. So what's happening? What to check? Thanks
  9. Hi, I have a 2000 Lexus RX300 with 115k miles and a 2005 Camry with 112k miles. RX300's timing belt was replaced at 82k so I guess it has some life left. That's the reason, I am keeping it and maybe trading the Camry for something else. I read several threads about child seat anchors and this is what I found: 1999 model only has one child seat anchor behind the rear right seat. 2000 model has two child seat anchor holes on both left and rear seats but not in the middle seat. Is that correct statement? I talked to local Lexus dealership about it and first they said, it'll cost me but after directing them to the carseat.org program, they said they can install it but it's available for the middle seat only. If that's correct, it's no use for people who have two kids. Confusing. So what should I reply to the dealership? Thanks
