I have the exact same problem. Steering wheel shakes when brakes applied at +50MPH. This has also caused my tranny shifter to shake, but that may be due to the transmission mounts issue. All this happened after hard braking and pulling over the side curb to avoid an accident in rainy weather. This might have knocked my alignment off too and my guess is warped my front rotors. I'll keep everyone posted.

Be very careful if you intend to purchase a 2000 Avalon. Occasional problems on this vehicle are failures of the Engine, the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor and the Air Fuel Ratio Sensors. ALL BIG ISSUES and COSTLY. The final assembly was in America. I would go for the 94' GS300. Very reliable engine that is still used in today's IS300 models, but at 5 more horsepower. If you are buying from another owner and not dealer, I would not pay more than $10.5K.

You lucky dog! Other than cosmetics, I think it comes with a supercharger, and LSD? Not 100% sure. How much did you get it for?

I just found A DIY at Alldata.com for the filter for the 93' GS300. This model year does not have a cabin air filter(Pollen Air filter), but it does have a A/C filter which is below the glove compartment. I'm not gonna change mine since there is no musty odor smell when the A/C is on. I don't know what year Lexus installed cabin air filter on the GS models.

I opened the gold brackets with 2 nuts and 2 wing buts below the glove box. A plastic cover with rubber seals was removed, looked about and saw a filter, but it was difficult to access. Does anyone have DIY and pics. Mine look dusty and dirty.

I would hate to spend money on a set of 4 snow tires (Heard the Blizzaks were good). Others Lexus owners seem to have good experience with the all-season TOYO Proxes TPT tires in rain/snow. Are these any better than Yokohoma?

Where is the Cabin Air Filter on the 1st gen GS300's? Checked near the glove box, but don't see any covers and not in the owners manual. Thanks

Has anyone had any luck replacing the fuel filter on the 93-97 GS300? Strange that the replacement of the fuel filter is not on the recommended maintenance list. Dealers don't even stock or recommend a change b/c they claim its a "Lifetime Filter". I bought one online for $20 bucks and plan on changing mine's this weekend.

Lexus recommends filling up at 1/4 of gas left in the tank. Why?? Because it does not put alot of strain on your fuel pump when the gas tank is full. I always fill up at 1/4 just to be safe. Replacing the fuel pump is a pain and costly!

Correction! non-interference engine would NOT damage the engine if the TB breaks.

I'm not sure with the Rx's, but my 93' gs300 is a non-interference engine. If the timing b. breaks it would damage any valves, pistons, etc. But, why take the risk. I would change it at the manufacturers 90K recommondation.

Like others in this post, have you done a tune up? Use iridium sparks, cap/rotor, synthetic oil, air filter, etc. Use BG44K to clean out the injectors, it works! On my 93' GS300 I get about 20 MPG city/bumper-to-bumper driving. Maybe check your O2 sensors. I've have not heard of any o2 sensor issues on these engines, but you never know.

On my 93' GS 300, I get about 20 MPG city/hwy. It's mostly city bumper-to-bumper driving. I've been spoiled w/t 24 MPG city/hwy on my G20, but for this kind of car seems reasonable.
