  1. I had one installed on my 2004 LS 430 after I bought it and it is fantastic. You can program it through the nav screen and reception is great (Southern California). I am sure you can buy it on-line and have a stereo installer put it in, but be careful. Make sure you get the right kit. The diagram shown by the previous post is from an early version that put a large, ugly antenna assembly on the trunk of your car. A newer one puts a mini antenna on the "package tray" under your back window (it is BARELY visible and a much cleaner installation). Also, I believe your dealer will cover your XM install through the vehicle warranty. Mine cost $600 for the kit, $300 for install plus tax. Compare the costs, consider the trade-offs and enjoy your XM.

  3. Yes, I have actually placed 1-Touch calls while the car was in motion. It's a very handy feature. While moving, you simply press the "Phone-Off-Hook" button on the steering wheel and the nav screen automatically puts the 1-Touch menu up for you to select the number to dial. I use this often and like it. As I mentioned, you can set up 17 phone numbers from your phone book to use with 1-Touch. It's set up with 3 screens of 6 numbers, but the 6th slot on the first screen is automatically set as a "Redial" function, so can't be assigned out of the phonebook. I neglected to mention in my previous posts that there are two separate phone books, so technically you could set 34 1-Touch numbers, but you have to be stopped to change from Phonebook 1 to Phonebook 2 (in the Telephone Setup screens). We use the Phonebook 1 and Phonebook 2 for his/her phone numbers. Yes, I have also dialed numbers manually on the phone and been able to speak and listen via the car's speaker system. Thanks for all the great posts on this subject. I hope Lexus is listening.
  4. Well, I'm not sure if I can help much, but here's some information on wireless headsets. There are two kinds of wireless headphones, radio frequency (RF) and infrared (IR). I have no way of knowing which kind you have, but it can make a difference in the way you use them. RF headphones are designed to pick up a radio signal that your car is broadcasting. If you have a tuning wheel on your headphones, they are probably RF headphones. Use the tuning wheel to tune into the right "station". Because the broadcasting of this radio station can interfere with your factory AM/FM radio, cars with this system are usually also equiped with an "OFF" switch to keep the car from broadcasting when not needed. Look around for an ON/OFF switch with no label. The ON/OFF switch on my '04 LX470 was installed on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. IR headphones are designed to pick up an infrared beamed signal. You should be looking on your car for an IR "eye", which may look like a small red light. With these headphones, they have to be located in a direct line from the IR "eye" or they will not receive the signal. Any item interfering in the direct line will mean no sound. A dirty "eye" will result in lost signal also. Systems with this type of headphone usually have the "eye" right on the headrest screen, so look there first. I'm not an aftermarket installer, and the info above is just what I remember from chatting with my aftermarket DVD installer. I hope I remember it properly. Good luck getting your system to work. I sure wouldn't want to drive 2.5 hours for a fix either.
  5. Regarding the issue of not being able to place calls while the car is in motion, I have two suggestions: 1. This is a lousy work-around, but you can always pick up the phone and dial your number. The call will go through and will be through the car's speakers. 2. You ~are~ able to place "One Touch" calls through the car, even while moving, if you have set them up. That said, I think the only way to set up the "One Touch" dialing is to have already set up the phonebook. See my previous post for suggestions on how to set up the phonebook by using a different cell phone. Once the phonebook is set up using a separate bluetooth cell phone, it will work fine for your v710. However, there is a 17 phone number limit in the "One Touch" system. For me, this accounts for 90% of my calls. Also, for what it is worth, I spoke with an aftermarket stereo/DVD installer regarding my LX470, and they indicated that they were able to bypass the Lexus speed sensor/parking brake sensors so that the Nav and Phone systems will work while moving. They indicated that it will likely invalidate my warranty on the electronics, but it might be worth it. Now a question: Has anyone figured out if it is possible to set up voice dialing through the car?
  6. I'm so glad you brought up this topic. I was busy all day thinking that my only problem with the v710 Motorola phone (new yesterday) was that I couldn't figure out how to beam my phonebook (never found a way to do this, despite hours of researching) to the LX470. I read your post and ran out to my car to see if I could recreate your issue. I concur, the car never rings to indicate an incoming call. If it helps you, I did notice that I could get the phone to vibrate on incoming calls if I selected the ring tone "Vibrate and Ring". Interestingly, the phone does not vibrate if you select "Vibrate", go figure. In every other ring setting, the phone and car were both silent on incoming calls. If it helps anyone, I got around the phonebook issue by loading my phonebook into a Nokia 6600 and beaming from there to the LX470. Once the phonebook was loaded into the LX470, I was able to access and use the phonebook with my v710. One more thing. We reproduced the same non-ring issue with the v710 and my husband's 2004 LS430. Oh, and the "Vibrate and Ring" did not result in even a vibrate when paired with the LS430. We're so disappointed! My husband is returning his new v710 tomorrow.
