they say once every six months but it's been 10 months an my car is still shiny

It depends on a lot of things:

1. What type of wax are you using?

2. Where is your vehicle parked, is it garaged, etc?

3. How is it washed, car wash? By hand?

If it is most carnuaba waxes its probably gone in a month. Synthetic sealants...3 months maybe. Long gone after 10 months.

The paint will always be shiny, but that doesn't mean its being protected by a sacrificial layer of wax or sealant.
