Hi Lexus owner & everyone else..

I was told that if I don't do my recommend maintenance that I might void the car warranty... this is true or not? The adviser give me this example.. since a small problem might cause a bigger problem later and if that happen, it might void the warranty since I don't do the inspection that they recommend which that they can't detect the small problem and fix it right away.. so it will be my faut and they have the right to void the warranty.

I don't believe this is how it work for Lexus.. but it worry me.. can someone confirm?

Well yeah, if you want them to stand behind the car you have to maintain it properly. Its not as cut and dried as they make it seem, but if they trace back an issue with a warrantable component and can pin it on you not doing the maintenance they will and rightly so.

Just maintain the car properly and you wont have any problems.

If so they should state as "Require" Maintenance. Yes, oil change, filter change, all recommend changes should do it but like the 16,000km recommend maintenace, the job mostly just inspection. Really for $440+tax for doing inspection + oil & filter change is way too expensive.. If that really their right to voild the warranty, oh well I guess my next new car won't be Lexus, is just to high to maintain the car then.. just the Labor cost start at $100 per hour.

Not sure about where you are, but the warranty is maintained as long as you have the maintenance done, whether it be lexus or your favorite mechanic or fast lube. You can even do it yourself as long as you keep receipts for the oil and filters....This being in the United States.

There is often confusion over exactly what routine maintenance is. Dealerships have begun to insist their customers perform more frequent check ups than the manufacturer which clearly benefits them. Providing you follow the manufacturer's recommendation you are covered.

For example, a local Honda dealership encourages oil changes every 3,750 which is considerably more frequent than what Honda recommends.

Typcial car dealer. If your took it to the dealer for everything in the book, you woudl be brook. Recommend is just that and I agree with "option00002" here

I have never had warrenty issues with any dealer doing my own stuff and not using them for everything I could do. Paying $200 for an oil change, rotate tires and CHECK 90% this/that is a ripoff.

Won't YOU be surprised, after you buy your shiny new Tahoe, or Benz, or F150 pick up ... and you get the same lame maintenance instructions from the 'other guys'
I made it a "project" to budy up to a service specialist ... who gave me the skiny on how badly the dealer will clean out your wallet, by saying you have to do lots of stuff that you simply don't have do do. Timing belt adjustment? (for example) Expect them to send you a 60K mile reminder ... and don't forget to bring hundreds & hundreds with you. The tech? He said unless you have to crack into the case for something else? Don't even THINK about it, untill you're over 100K MILES. And it doesn't affect the warranty, if you don't do their sneeky "recomended" things that they say to do (which is better called, money laundering )

It's a hassle, but if you search the web, you'll eventually find lists ... dividing truth from fiction regarding required maintenance.

Should not have too. In oil change land, a requirement is not the same as posted in the manual (AKA recomended). As I stated in a closed thread (why no clue) I trust manuals like ZERO since I know what is behind them and it is not engineers.

That's EXACTLY what I'm saying. The Lexus web site talks about their recomendations (IE; so they can make a boat load of money on you via excess and unnecessary work) as though it's the same as 'requirements'. Further, once they have your email address (required, in order to register) you'll NEVER see the end to the friendly reminders to come and do your maintenance 'requirements' ... which really aren't.

This was for those who want to know and for the rest who just need the info to wright down in your book so you can say "oh, ya. I did that".
