jzz30
the fastest i have gone is 110 up hill in my sc4. not too many long stretches and a lot of cops in hawaii that just try to catch speeders so im too scared to get caught. i only speed where i can see that there arent any cops.
did 90 on my LS and after going 90 i found the "LOW" mode biggrin.gif handles better than my sc at those speeds

135 IN MY gs300 - 3am , long stretch hwy29 across wisconsin , THAT IS FAST ENOUGH .............
alexR
same same, 135 in my 11 year old lexus. With 3 other people in the car. At 9 in the morning. It was fun. smile.gif

Well ,I had a loaded cooler , a dog and the wife [ she was sleeping , so was the dog ] and a trunk full of clothes and other goods for vacation . Smooth lex never woke either of them !!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

125 in my 93 ES alone on the highway. I felt like an idiot passing by so many people so I decided to stop. Didn't feel like she had much more in her anyway, maybe if I rolled the windows up and turned the A/C and system off...125's enough for me though. I've been 128 before but that was on shot tires...STUPID blushing.gif

125 mph on the Acura Legend and only 100 mph on the Lexus. (in city)

ive done 156 in my sc300 on 9a down a steep bridge i think i could have gotten to 160 if i was lucky but with out a down hill i top at around 150
Wizard
I can verify that the 146MPH posted top speed of a 5-speed SC300 is accurate(red line reached in top gear with W58) and easily reachable on I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix.

Plenty of power left, runs out of rpm. Need a 6-speed I guess.

Note: Float at this speed is noticable (no spoiler) but manageable, but I don't think theres more than another 30-40MPH left before handling becomes too unreliable for public roads. Track speeds above this should be no problem.

Odometer wouldn't go pass 155mph in my 92' SC400, straight away in Long Island NY, sunroof didn't want to close due to the force of the wind.
Mr. O
1995 sc300 140 easy.. could have gone faster.. but big rigs scared me haha

I've done 115 on rt 93 in NH. Fastest I've gone in the SC4. It's weird cuz it Seemed to ride smoother at higher speeds. Good 'Ol Lexus engineering.
SirSam
141 when I saw the opportunity and still climbing, ran out of road (approaching vehicles) 2 am, alone. To many people down here like to pull out in front of you, not worth the risk. 92SC400

How about you punkrocker?
sc_toy
11 pm, 6 lane highway, no cars around for several km. Got the SC400 up to 230 km/h (140 mph or so), I once had my MR2 Supercharged up to 240 km/h (redline in 5th) on a COLD canadian november night but it took a good 10 km to get going that fast.

The SC400 took about 2-3km so it may have eventually gone faster than the MR2 but I'm getting older and not as brave/stupid.

If you're running stock differential and W58 on proper tire size, then I'm afraid I'm gonna have to call your bluff.
Our cars tach out at 146-147 with stock driveline no matter how much power you add to the engine.
If you're running upgraded diff or tranny, then right on!
If you're running a wheel/tire combo that is too small in circumferance, your speedo is off by about 5%

NOTE: You can possibly squeeze 1 or 2 more MPH if you depress your clutch right before fuel cut, but I highly reccomend against this.
Handling can be adversely affected when you suddenly lose power to the rear wheels at 150ish
BMAN1113
On Scenic Hwy 61 South, just north of Port Gibson, I got my SC400 up to 140mph. I had made my mind up to hit the reported ceiling speed of 150mph, but just couldnt do it. After 135mph my heart was racing so hard as the road seemed to narrow and the passing green countryside began to smear. Then a little voice inside my head said what if a wheel comes off or something?... That extra 10 mph gets emotionally hard to reach especially if you have reasons to live... kids, wife, etc.. The car handeled great though.

i dont care what magazines say about BMW's 155 cut off.... not true!!!!! I have it on film too... Im riding down Card Sound rd (on the way to the keys...) in my friends 03 stang cobra... we keep it at 155 for a while( keeps shutting off after that from gov chip) and then my friend alex zooms by in his STOCK M3. I mean zoom as in looks like at least 15 mph faster. Although im not sure exactly, he says his speedo said 178. Id say 170 but not more. Anyway, it was a whole group of us having fun and being stupid. Here are the cars.

2000 Honda civic EX (some work, basics only) Shuts off at 120mph- my old car
2004 Honda Accord Coupe 4cyl( also some work) 138 mph- Loren
2003 Audi TT 180 - 142 mph- Chez
1993 Lexus sc300 - 142mph (me and the audi were neck and neck the whole time....)
1984 BMW M3 widebody-145mph- Brendan's old car
2003 Mustang Mach1- (new gears, exhaust, chip, some others) redline at 150 mph- Dont know
2004 BMW 745li- shut off at 155mph- Chris
2004 Mustang Cobra- shuts off at 155 mph-Brendan's new car
2001 Saleen s281 sc- 165 mph- Albie (hate that kid)
2002 Carrera 996- 176mph- My cousin Todd
2001 BMW M3- 178mph- Alex

I drove from LA to SF to LA this weekend. I was able to get to 100mph, but anymore...and I felt the engine really struggling. How are you SC300 5-speed guys going above 120? Going at 100, I didn't feel like the car had much more power to really push beyond 120 (Possibly to 110.) Not that I'm trying to reach 120+mph speeds, but I didn't feel like my car could go that fast.

My tires were properly inflated. Still stock suspension, but in good condition. Just curious as I don't see how you guys are posting speeds higher than 120...
Nimski62
Hey DomLee.. do you by any chance feel the SC is really really slow during take off?.. cuzz i have a 1992 SC 300 5spd and its a dogg.. i feel the same as you after 100.. feels like it has nothing left, and during take off, it tops out so fast in first gear.. Let me know. Thanks

The SC is fine on takeoff. A bit sluggish maybe, but I'm more concerned w/ the way it tops out. I expected the power to die out more at 120 - 130mph.

Obviously this can be remedied by customing gearing, but if I'm spending money on that...I may as well look into an engine swap, along w/ the Supra 6-speed tranny.

is the gsxr1100 a motorcycle? what type srry i have no clue bout motor cycles..200? that is very fast and i think that a moto would be very unstable at those speeds

indiasfinest- Yes, The problem is there are only two years the Suzuki was the fastest and could go over there 189 limit. Bone stock, no bike can go over 200 mph.

Some what confused......In other blogs it talks about the 119mph max as that is the way the Japenese have limited all the cars made there. I see several here saying that they have gone way beyond that 119 mph limit. What is the deal? Have they had to modify their cars to go beyond the 119 mph limit or what? Or is it that those made here in the states don't have that 119 mph limit? I own a SC 400 but have not push the limit. The conditions in Austin don't allow for it. If modifications are required to go beyond this 119 limit, I would like to know what that is. Just what is involved.

Thanks,

Flashjet
don_juan_miami
119??!! Who would buy a lex that could only do that? As far as the limits on japan bro.... well.. if its 119 on all cars... remind me why J-Spec components are so popular? No offence or anything but i think you might have been mis-informed. Most japaneese versions of american cars are tuned for HIGHER horsepower and top speeds. Ive heard of Gov. chips like in all the Merc's and BMW's, but a National set limit? I dont know about all that. Let me know what you find out. Try going out of town and stepping on it, your sc400 should do plenty more than 119...
Juancho...

p.s... my lex was stock( 15'' rims and all) and at sea level.. granted i needed a few miles... i hit 142 on a g-tech pro, while my needle was reading 145.

That's actually not true. For some time now, there has been a limit to how much horsepower a car could generate in Japan, the most known to me would be the Lancer Evolution, and the Subaru WRX STi (276 HP). But now I think the law's different.
indiasfinest
yea i dont think there is a 119 speed limit on lexuses..
DomLee
There is no law. It was a "gentlemen's agreement". Nothing more than each manufacturer agreeing to say that the cars only made no more than "280 PS (276 bhp)".

I'm still disappointed at the power dropoff near 100mph w/ the SC300s. Is this the same w/ the Supra NAs?
DomLee
Still don't know how they (Lexus) got a top speed of 146 out of the SC300.

I've gotten to 137, this only shows 130 however becaue I forgot to send the pic from my phone to the server before I moved it into a different folder.

Car felt stable at this speed but would have taken a good minute or two more and 3miles or more of road to get to 145. took about 3 interstate exits to get to 137..gets up to 130 pretty fast.

Here's my speed in my grandpa's cadillac STS (not the new ones unfortunately, but this v8 still packs a punch)

130 in my 92 SC300 5 SPEED - not to smart, but it was a long time ago.....
DLaxMan3
I have gone 145mph plenty of times in My SC4 in the wee hours of the morning or in the middle of the day. I got scared one time when my oil lamp came on.
AppleJack
Well in my Acura Legend - got it up to 137mph - at 7 am in the morning.

And

In my SC400 - I got right up to the top speed spec of 149mph due to the limiter - otherwise I think it would have gone a bit faster.

(both times on a wide open highway without any other cars around!!)
don_juan_miami
for all of you who dont know how these crazy speeds are possible, remember, I reached 142 at SEA LEVEL on Card Sound road which is a state road going to the keys that along with being a straight bullet, has no exits, light, hell... even cops for 18 miles!!! The road is a one lane north one lane south strip with guard rails about 2-3 feet from the edge of the asphalt so no cop can park on the side. The only way a cop can stop you is if he clocks you while driving himself on the strip-which is also not likely due to the county cut-off lines. Miami-Dade ends and meets Monroe county halfway between the road so as far as patroling goes.... naahh. The only thing you need to worry about on that road is careless minivan driving dads with their families going the actual 55mph limit after getting lost trying to find key largo or something. All in all its a pretty chill 142mph i reached. Not the whole "omg omg omg omg omg omg... $h!t a cop....ok no it wasn't... wow this is fast omg omg omg".... experience we usually put ourselves through. That and its better to do it at night, not durring the summer so you get a mild 70 deg F, instead of a power killing 95 deg. For those of you who say the sc300 has no guts after 100... i say its your car, not ours. Mine was stock...rims and all when this was done. Sounds just like dirty injectors or sludge.... you seen that castrol commercial with the car towing the boat anchor and the piano.... yea... thats you my friends..

Oh and as far as a Supra's acceleration, My friend Reed ( now in at UT texas) has a N/A Supra and riding along side him with my girl in her F-150 lightning (sorry guys, highest she got was 130 before chickening out, but not with the supra...) he got to um... about 100 or so maybe 110 and was still picking up speed pretty quick, I imagine a little quicker than our sc's due to the 6spd tranny. We were chillin at like 90- 95mph and he had gunned it.

DomLee and Nimski62,
You guys got engine problems somewhere. I'd start with new distributor/rotor/plugs/air filter like right now. I've got a stock 1994-5sp @ 93k miles. In normal tune this engine accelerates hard straight through 110mph in fourth then an upshift to 5th taking over. My fastest is ~122 or so on the straights of Thunderhill Raceway Roadcourse. There was plenty more left as it was still accelerating hard but I was running out of straight with a hard left to make at the end.
caglo
My personal fastest is a little over 120 mph. I was coming home from a game going about 70 in a 50 already and a nice big pickup decides I'm not going fast enough. When I saw him try to pass I just floored it till he was a spec in the rearview mirror, thus coining the phrase "speccing" someone. Probably not the safest thing to do by any means, but a good use of the power nonetheless. IMO
don_juan_miami
Ha ha ha ha... speccing? Funny stuff... Never heard that before... Whatever bro... we've all been stupid a few times or another. Have fun and live young

i went 150mph for 6 miles right behind a gsx-r on my sc400 going south on 295.

The only limit for Japaness auto makers was for HP and that was set to be below 300. Now that is changed
Gommenos
Ive gone about 110 in the 4Runner lol
146 in my 95 BMW M3
155 in my 99 Mercedes CLK 430

the 4runner was without a doubt the biggest rush lol!
soarer_bang
140 with 98 sc300 pretty scary~ ha ha~
onebadshot556
Doing 130 in the the SC 430 feels like your doing 60mph.

Have taken the RX-7 up to 163, plenty left in her but I started to get a boost spike at about 14psi and I shut it down.

Oh yeah my yoda pickup with the flatbed got up to 109....going downhill...
94BLKSC400

170 without top (Viper) and I had enough.
Car is capable of more, but not my balls...

Maybe 120 in Lexus?
JIBBBY
138mph in my 1992 SC400 driving from Los Angeles, California to Las Vegas......

Not including cars I went 170 or so in less then 6 seconds on this baby......lucky I did not die on that beast....
Lex3486
laugh.gif I just saw my old post from a few years ago. Guess I should update-92 SC3 stock, A/T, open interstate, summer night, 3AM, me and a fat guy, 142 before I hit a slight uphill and lost a few MPH. Beats the hell outta 128 in the ole ES. In the words of Ron Burgandy, I'm not even mad. cheers.gif
