What is the expected life of the shocks on the GX470 and does anyone know how much they cost to replace? Thanks, AL

Should last for many miles unless you abuse it. The costs would probably be a little high but I'm pretty sure it will last at least 100k miles, if not even longer.

I do not know what model is your GX but the dealer looks at the following criteria way to change the Shocks. Read this TSB it will improve your knowledge.
